Wake up & Make up for the Met Gala 2023
Over the past year, we have been working with the talented and awesome team at Alison Brod PR. We were referred to them by one of their beauty clients who worked with us in the past, L’Oréal Paris. We adore both of these teams and the events we get to produce from them are always amazing.
In New York City, on the first Monday in May, there is a huge event called the Met Gala. For this year’s gala, the theme was Karl Lagerfeld, honoring his legacy. L’Oréal hosted an event the morning of the Gala to draw in make up and beauty artists who reside in New York and were there to work the Gala to enjoy coffee, breakfast and a special experience with the product. To create a buzz and make for an engaging morning, they opened up a space for the general public to enjoy complimentary coffee, free product (for the first 200 consumers) and a lip bar where they had make up artists giving lip touch ups with L’Oréal lipsticks.
The event was held at Maman which is our absolute favorite coffee in the city. Elisa, the owner, became a friend of mine years ago when my cousin introduced me to her as she had opened her first shop in Toronto. We have worked with Elisa and her incredible team on so many events in the past but this one, has to be the best yet.
Upstairs in the Upper East Side location of Maman there is a private space where we set up for the VIP Make Up Artists. The space was to feel welcoming and open for these artists to “shop” from. We set each product by category with a table for face, a table for hair and used one of the antique hutches Maman had in the space already for eyes. Last but not least was a table for lipstick and blush. When styling product, we tend to channel the Home Edit because they have done it best with make up product organization. We brought in tons of bins, organizers, trays and lipstick holders to display the products in a stunning, shoppable way. Of course we layered in florals and signage throughout drawing from the spring season and the warm weather that was upon us.
We always find every and anyway possible to pull through branding. We customized tote bags for the make up artists to use for “shopping”. We custom printed cocktail napkins, coffee sleeves and Maman worked with us to create a specially dipped croissant in the L’Oréal iconic Colour Riche Red lipstick. They also created a custom stencil with the L’Oréal logo for all milk froth topped drinks. Was just fabulous!
For the customers who were visiting Maman for a coffee that morning, they were pleasantly surprised (if not already alerted through the Maman marketing channels) about this event. They walked into a jammed shop full of coffee drinkers, complimentary coffee and a lip bar where they could get touch ups. The product bags that we packed full of L’Oréal goodies went fast but the complimentary coffee was pouring all morning!
The night before this big event it rained, actually poured all night. The following morning, was also supposed to rain but guess what? It didn’t! The sun was shining and it was the most perfect Met Gala Monday morning ever. The event was a huge success and as always, we so enjoyed working with all these amazing women.
