"Playdating" in New York City

When we are young, it kind of feels like life is a fairy tale. That's certainly how you will feel after looking at these photos of Gavin and Mazzy... Gavin and Mazzy who have been friends for almost half their lives now, went out on a little play "date" after school to celebrate Valentine's Day. Little kids in the big city can sometimes be a bit challenging. Fast cars, icy snow, constant stimulation! These two know how rock it though and they had a blast. They spent a solid 2 hours laughing. At one point they said "let's run ahead of the grown ups" so we can be in charge. They were doing everything in their power for some freedom in the most innocent way. Growing up I had a boy "friend" who I pretended to marry. I cannot imagine having photos that documented our child hood like this. Looking back at them now would be so fascinating. Gavin and Mazzy's date was captured by lifestyle photographer Dave Robbins. Dave's photos document their date telling the story exactly as it happened. The kids began their after school play "date" at an adorable little flower shop called Very Special Flowers which can be found on 10th street in the West Village. Gavin and I arrived a little early and chose a few pretty pink flowers to surprise Mazzy with. They were giggly and gitty when they first saw each other. We carried on for a "mocktail" at Jeffrey's Grocery. The kids said cheers and gabbed it up for a few minutes. They felt VERY independent sitting at their own table! Moving forward they hit up Magnolia Bakery. Cupcakes before dinner? Why not! We're celebrating Valentine's day. Let's be spontaneous and romantic! Before we could even tell him to do so...Gavin was opening the door for his little lady like a perfect gentleman. Together they chose their flavors... Waited patiently for their cupcakes... And threw them back with great delight! I think that it is darling to see these two share their youth as such close friends. You never know what the future holds but no matter what that may be, these two will forever have these memories.
