Making Birthdays Extra Special With American Greetings

Being a December baby has always had its benefits in my mind. I am such a Sagittarius, I love always being the youngest and my birthday overlaps or falls right around Hanukkah. Instead of being forgotten in the holiday hustle & bustle, my family and friends always make sure I feel special and remembered. Growing up we would have a family Hanukkah party, birthday party with my friends and then even more birthday festivities with my family. I always got multiple celebrations, which was pretty awesome!
My husband’s birthday is in October, so a couple years back to celebrate us both turning the big 4-0, we held a joint party to celebrate the milestone together. It was an 80s prom theme and each guest came decked out in costume. We ate & danced all night, and of course took tons of photos. It was an epic blowout bash and one of my best birthday memories to date!
Fast forward to 2020 where partying looks quite a bit different. Luckily, I am a huge fan of snail mail! This year, more than ever, I’ve found sending and receiving cards the perfect way to stay connected to the ones we love. Whenever I’m shopping I stroll through the card aisle and pick up a few for my stash so I’m always prepared when inspiration strikes. Right now if you purchase 4 American Greetings cards, you’ll save $2 at Target between November 30th and December 19th. It’s the perfect time to stock up for the holidays & for spreading extra happiness year round!
I’m not sure how I got so lucky, but my boys have inherited my love for sharing gratitude and happiness through cards. I have a huge stack saved from over the years, and I treasure them and the heartfelt messages more than any present I’ve received. Each birthday when I add to the collection, I read through them all and I swear my heart might burst. So, while I’m not 100% sure what this December 8th (my birthday!) will have in store for me, what I do know I can count on is Adam taking the boys on a trip to Target to pick out the most perfect American Greetings cards for me.
Given the current year that we are having, I know that this birthday will be much more low key than normal and I’m totally ok with that. I’m so thankful for technology, but after work and virtual learning, sometimes the last thing I want to do is hop on video to catch up with family or friends. I know now more than ever, receiving cards in the mail will feel extra special and will surely brighten my day.
After a particularly stressful week, I woke up last weekend to a surprise brunch spread to kick off what I’m officially now calling my “birthday season.” It was an unseasonably mild morning so the boys had set out a cute little tablescape al fresco and served me coffee, orange juice, cupcakes and donuts.
The icing on the cupcakes, so to speak? A stack of thoughtfully written American Greetings cards to add to my collection. Made my week. Happy early birthday to me & happy birthday to all my fellow holiday babies!
