A Masculine Home Office
When we decided to make the move permanent here in Florida, we bought a house that had a large room in the front and knew, that would be where we set up Adam’s bunker. However this time…it wouldn’t really look like a bunker.
If you remember when the pandemic first started, if you were following me, we moved out to Long Island. There, we set up an office for Adam in the basement, and called it the bunker. It was a running joke for months to follow as we would tease him for working down there, along side all of Luke’s stuffed animals.
Now, Adam has a “real” office at home and we made sure it was perfectly suited for him in every way. Here’s how Lisa, Maggie and I designed his Florida office….
Masculine color scheme:
Listen, Adam is a man’s man. He has some pink shirts that he’ll break out every now and then but when it comes to his work environment he does not care for anything bright or flashy. We used a grey grass cloth wallpaper to make his office space feel cozy and paired that with a graphic patterned carpet that we sourced together in NYC. We found a super cool light fixture for the ceiling that gives the room immediate drama when you walk in.
Desk + chair:
So originally, we sourced this gorgeous marble desk for Adam from CB2. Sadly, it arrived chipped AND it was way too small. So we returned it and then re-sourced a much more suitable desk that was triple the size and fit Adam’s 3 computer screens which take up much more space than we had initially anticipated. This larger, corner desk is from Restoration Hardware and is so beautiful.
We wanted a sleek, cool looking chair for Adam. We found one from CB2 that seemed to work perfectly until 3 months in and now the wheels are falling off. Sadly, they told me that the chair is non-refundable (even though it’s broken!!) and they would give me a credit. I will be candid when I tell you I had a lot of issues with the products I ordered from CB2 for this house which was hugely disappointing as they are one of my favorite brands. Adam ended up ordering a basic, but very comfortable chair off of Amazon and is very happy. Unlike me, he’s function over fashion. HA!
The Bar:
This is my favorite part - the bar that we sourced from Adam from Crate and Barrel. This piece fit perfectly in the corner of his office that we wanted to put it and is so cool for storing a few elevated glasses and bottles of whisky. It even has a secret lighting system and tray that you can pull out for cheese if one is feeling super motivated to set that up. For his birthday and Hanukkah I bought him all kinds of knick knacks to decorate this bar with such as recipe books for cocktails and even a super cool whiskey decanter that I found in Jonathan Adler’s shop.
The backdrop:
The wall that is behind Adam’s desk was important as he spends a lot of his time on video calls and this acts as his backdrop. He wanted something sophisticated and he wanted to included the Frame Samsung TV which he could use for watching the news and/or displaying beautiful art photos when he wanted it static. I framed the TV with bookshelves that have storage in each and a beautiful credenza that I found on CB2. On the bookshelves, I again, used this as an opportunity to buy gifts for Adam that could be styled on the shelves. He has a great love of golf so I found some pretty fabulous golf themed books. I also selfishly sourced some pretty cool books about fashion + art. I mixed in framed photos, a “K” for Kertzner and a plant that gives the wall a pop of freshness.
The sitting area:
We (me + the boys) often go into Adam’s office to hang out. For this we created a little hang out with two beautiful leather chairs and a marble side table that I bought the cutest Tic Tac Toe for.
Shades:
Last but not least, we put up charcoal grey pull down roman shades for the office which helped to make the room feel warm and of course bright when they are pulled up.
