Project Basement in Quogue
We bought a house in Quogue, NY 5 years ago. Our oldest son was just born and we thought it would be nice to have a home outside of the city to escape to on the weekends and during the summer.
We had spent about 3 years searching for our dream home out east and we finally found it in Quogue. We love this part of Long Island because it's so easy to get to from the city. It's also the most chill town out here, making it feel much like the area in Canada that I used to spend my summers in.
The house we found was a brand new build. When my husband and I walked through the door we could not maintain our usual house hunting poker face. We folded immediately.
There were so many special things about the house, I couldn't wait to get in and start decorating. One of the best parts though, was the unfinished basement. That was a project I was truly excited to one day tackle.
We lived in the house for 5 years and then the time came and we decided to move forward with finishing the basement. The goal was to turn the basement into a cozy hangout for ourselves, kids and guests. I put together a board of inspirational photos on Pinterest and then made the call to my dear friend Lisa of Abaca Interiors who is my go to designer for all of my home projects.
I gave Lisa a rundown on what I wanted - most importantly - for this NOT to look like a basement!
I wanted a simple color palette of black, white and grey with specific pops of color: Yellow & Purple.
I wanted to add a wet bar, bathroom and I wanted to turn one of our garages into a cottage type bedroom.
Lastly, I needed a home to store all of our LMP supplies.
Lisa nailed this project in every which way. I'll let these pictures show you how...and for a complete shopping list for everything Lisa used to finish my basement you can click over to this article posted yesterday on the Domino Magazine website.
