Maggie's Mini Adirondack Getaway
One of the things I miss the most about being home with my family is being able to take little trips together- whether it was a few hour drive to my grandparents house in the country, or the long trek to Cape Cod, we always had such a wonderful time traveling in the summer.
This year, I decided, I couldn't go the whole summer without getting away from the city to see the family! Luckily, they were headed up to visit my Aunt Carol's cottage in The Adirondacks during the last week of August. I was able to take a train from New York to spend 2 days working from home and enjoying the wonderful views.
It was refreshing, relaxing and CHILLY. Talk about being ready for fall. Even the leaves are already beginning to change up there!
When we first arrived, we relaxed on the deck for a great summer meal- steak, potatoes, and corn on the cob.
Then we all sat on the dock to enjoy the sunset, including Roxy, our family pup.
As you might imagine, the cell service out in the woods is pretty bad, so we had to entertain ourselves all day (imagine, HAH!) with things like fishing...
nature walks...
and painting!
It was honestly a great excuse to not be glued to my phone all day, even if I was on wifi for work! Any chance to disconnect can be totally refreshing.
And it wouldn't be a trip to the woods without hot dogs cooked over the bonfire.
I even got the chance to go kayaking with my dad, although the trip was short lived because Roxy simply couldn't handle the concept of the oars... She can be crazy but we love her anyway!
And finally, another stunning sunset to complete a couple wonderful days away. I'm so glad I got to spend a little time with family, grateful to my Aunt Carol for her amazing hospitality, and already dying to go back for another dose of fresh Adirondack air!
A happy end to a happy summer!
