Ready, Set, Weekend with the Garden of Eatin'
How many recipes can you think of in under one minute that contain an apple as an ingredient. I thought of 25 but you are only getting the recipe for ONE that’s not on this list…. APPLE CRUMBLE APPLE PIE APPLE CRISP APPLE SAUCE APPLE BUTTER APPLE FRITTERS APPLE BROWN BETTY APPLE CAKE APPLE CIDER APPLE JUICE APPLE BLOSSOMS APPLE COBBLER APPLE MUFFINS APPLE SCONES APPLE BUNS DRIED APPLES CARAMEL APPLES APPLE CHUTNEY APPLE PANCAKES APPLE STUFFING APPLE CREPES DUTCH APPLE PANCAKE APPLE TURNOVERS APPLE SLAW and last but not least…. BAKED APPLES If you have had the chance to pick your own apples during the Fall season and have exhausted your list of baking and cooking with them, why not indulge in a little decadent treat? Chocolate covered apples with two ingredients. Here’s what you need: AN APPLE SOME MELTING CHOCOLATE And a stick. Well? Are you not going to do this? Of course you are! I love this so much because not only is it SUPER DUPER easy and delish but look at the result of your efforts. STUNNING WITH A CAPITAL S. Here’s how you Jack up your Apples: Wash your apples. Place a lollipop stick in the centre of your apples. Now melt your chocolate in a deep bowl – Here’s a little tip for microwaving or melting any chocolate. I like to add a couple of drops of vegetable oil to the chocolate to give it a nice sheen. Start your microwave at 20 seconds on high and stir the chocolate at 10 second intervals until it is JUST MELTED. When I say JUST, I mean JUST….otherwise you will end up with BURNT chocolate and even though the people I live with would eat ANYTHING in any FORM if it smells like chocolate and has dropped on the floor, you don’t want it to taste gross. Now dippity doo your apples, oh…make sure they are dry…..then place on wax paper to harden. I got a little carried away here and melted some colored chocolate for decoration BUT you can literally go wild with this recipe. You can roll em in sprinkles, nuts, dried fruit, coconut or drizzle with white or colored melted chocolate. If you are rolling them in a topping make sure you do this quickly before the chocolate hardens. They make an awesome tablescape display for the holidays if you use themed colors….once again….put on your thinking caps and use your imagination….An APPLE a DAY will keep the DOCTOR away….unless it is drenched in chocolate in which case your doctor may just show up at your door to EAT one. See ya next week! Debi @thegardenofeatin xoxo
