How to style a Chic Thanksgiving Table

Thanksgiving is quite literally my favorite holiday to set the table for. Every year I come up with stylish ways to make my table special.  I start with a color palette.  Sometimes I play off of black and white and bring in accent colors.  Sometimes I go with a traditional fall palette of browns and oranges and sometimes I go off the grid with colorful jewel tones.

This year, I’m going to be on a BOAT traveling the seas with my family because my kids have a whole week off of school so we’re using it as an opportunity to travel as a family and spend some quality time together off of our screens.

But that doesn’t mean I can’t help you style your table…because I’m overloaded with ideas.  Of course this year, they are inspired by my favorite products sold at The Social Society.  Here we go….

For starters, thanksgiving is heart, sloppy meal (GRAVY!). You need to use real dishes. For the adults at least!  BUT, I love adding chic plate on top for appetizers or simply for the photo op!  Our gold appetizer plates are just gorgeous and work with any color palette that you choose.

Napkins are the best way to bring in a pop of color or fun especially where you’re serving your appetizers.  Cocktail napkins are a must!  We have the wittiest napkins and the cutest styles!  You must see our entire collection - you cannot go wrong and there are laugh out loud options.

Speaking of which….

Our coasters are hilarious and don’t let Aunt Sally ruin your coffee table with a wine glass ring!

Back to the table…I got side tracked!

When I host family dinners, if I don’t set out a place card my family immediately gets to the table and starts asking WHERE DO YOU WANT ME TO SIT?  To avoid the confusion and headache, I always set out placards with everyone’s name clearly written at their seat.  Makes it so simple and there are so many fun ideas for these like our honeycomb turkeys!  How cute are these guys?!

On the table, I ALWAYS have flowers arranged.  It’s a must for me. Flowers add a fresh, beautiful and thoughtful element to the table and are the perfect way to pull through your color palette.  You don’t have to spend a lot either.  Check out Trader Joe’s - they always have a fabulous selection of blooms and greenery!  If you don’t have a cool vase, we’ve got you.  Our vase selection is whimsical and fun.

I also love to set up candlesticks. There are so many unique styles out there now and we carry a couple of options that are perfect for the holiday season.  Personally I love the fall colored leaf candlesticks that we sell paired with our mustard glass candle stick holders. Make sure you light right before your guests sit down for a relaxing ambiance.

Lastly, I love to set out games to play after dinner. We have an assortment of trivia games that will keep the kids off their screens and everyone engaged. OR if you have a family who loves to cook, (OR great for hosting Friendsgiving), I love setting out recipe cards at each setting and asking my guests to fill out their favorite recipe to later trade with someone at the table.

Ah, so much fun. I’m a bit jealous to be missing out this year!  Please send me photos of your tables all set up.  I know those who follow us and shop at the store will have some stellar tablescapes!  Can’t wait to see.
