Hanukkah 2020

Hanukkah is truly one of my favorite holidays for so many reasons. Most importantly, it usually falls right around my birthday, making December the ultimate party month for me and my family.

What do I love about Hanukkah? I love to get and give gifts. Always have and always will. I’m trying (hoping) to teach this to my children. I love giving them gifts however sometimes I’m disappointed in their reaction. I remind myself that sometimes maybe I’m more excited about the gift then they are.

Traditionally, we place our Hanukkah gifts under my pink tree. I love this tree. I had it in my office for the past few years and have collected the prettiest and most meaningful ornaments from so many important people over the years. It’s always such joy setting it up and it represents the December holidays to me.

This morning, the 7th night of Hanukkah, me + the boys were watching the Today Show as we do daily. They have been talking all about charities that you can donate to for children who have families that are unable to bring the magic of Christmas home this year. One of the qualities that both my kids possess that I am so grateful for is their love of giving. After watching all the segments this morning (some tears were shed) we chose Toys for Tots to donate to. Gavin and Luke each chose their age bracket, gifts, dragged them into the Toy Sac and used their own money to make the purchase. My heart was so full.

This is what I love about the holidays and my birthday. The magic of gifting + giving.

While celebrating this Covid Hanukkah here in Florida, we lit the candles every night and exchanged a small gift after doing so. We had latkes 3 times so far. Actually 4. We sent cards, photos and so much love to our family and friends.

Since you’re probably not seeing your cousins from Charlotte this year, you can still play! Never would have dreamed this one up…but if you’re ever looking to play a little dreidel with your cousins you can do so ANYTIME virtually! Get all my dreidel game tips here on Martha Stewart.
