Donation Days
For years now, it’s been a mission of mine to make sure I consider others and find ways to add some good into the world by helping out those in need. This summer when I made the permanent move to Florida, I thought to myself…I made a decision for my family that was of great magnitude and was for the absolute best. I have never seen my family members so happy before. I’m forever grateful for the opportunities that I have created for my life and while I found joy after a dark year, I have been hyper aware of so many people who have still not gotten to their light at the end of the tunnel.
What I thought about most when moving to Florida was the stigma around Covid, government, climate…there are so many factors that shake up this world and it’s important to me to stay grounded to the roots of what I believe in.
As I started a construction project on my backyard, I quickly saw the after effects of the Covid Economy. As I kept hearing the excuse of: I can’t work today because I have Covid or know someone who died of Covid made me think uh oh….the doctors. And nurses. And custodians. UH OH. They are getting…screwed. Again. They are being overworked because Americans are not taking responsibility in a situation where we now have options to SAVE LIVES by getting vaccinated, wearing a mask and all around staying safe. At this point, it’s just shameful.
I put a statement out into the universe asking for anyone who works in an over run hospital to please reach out to me so I could send over meals to signify my deep gratitude and hopefully bring a little joy into their day.
Needless to say, this was pretty well received and I reached a ton of incredibly, hard working health care heroes.
The first person who reached out was Molly Kurtz. Here’s a little clip of what she wrote after she received all the food that I sent over….
Seri-
I cannot thank you enough for the amazing lunch today. You have no idea the joy this brought our staff!! The sandwiches and desserts were absolutely delicious and the nurses were so surprised!! We even had enough to share with our ICU friends.
The kindness you have shown has completely sparked a change in my heart. Honestly these last few months have been so depressing and lately I’ve been thinking about leaving medicine all together. This joy today reminded me why I went into medicine- to help people, to make the hurting feel better. Your simple act of selflessness has completely changed the mood at work and even though their masks were hiding them, I know they were all smiling from ear to ear.
I cannot say enough thanks to you!!
Please let me know an address that we can send a proper thank you to :)
Much love,
Molly Kurtz
I continued this mission with teachers. Another set of heroes. Teachers. They take our children, day after day and they not only care for them, they shape and guide them on their journey of life. I want to give the good teachers of the world my whole heart.
For weeks I asked teachers to please send me their Amazon wish lists so I can could buy everything their classroom needed.
These teachers…they couldn’t stop thanking me. And I couldn’t stop thanking THEM!
Just take a look at a few of these notes and photos…could you just CRY?! AND some of the teachers sent me packages in the mail…with dozens of cards that their students wrote to me thanking me for making their class rooms a better place because of all the supplies that they now have. Unreal. It’s the little things in life that make a difference you guys…and these kids…these kids are our future!! It’s so important to take care of them.
I shared all of our new good with the students yesterday and they were so excited! They couldn’t believe someone from NYC who has 27k followers actually gifted us something! Not only did you help us out and give us a “glow up” according to one teenage girl but you won mr some cool points! From the bottom of my heart, along with 143 8th graders. Thank you for everything! -Katie
Hello Seri,
I am so sorry it has taken so long to get back to you -- the first few weeks of school are always so crazy!
I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for the INCREDIBLY generous gift you have given my classroom. My students come from a low income area and don't have access to so many of these books and were SO excited when we got them in!! One of my students specially requested we get Harry Potter for the classroom and when I showed it to her she teared up. Another student has been having behavior trouble, but really loves music, and one of the books we ordered was for him -- he read it so quickly and his entire attitude shifted knowing that his interests were cared about. I hope you know what an immense difference you have made by helping teachers out and I could simply never thank you enough.
I am attaching a picture of some of the kids holding the new books :) I told them that we got a very generous donation and they wanted me to tell you directly how thankful they are!!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Thank you again and again.
Best,
Courtney Spector
