DIY Painted Planter for Indoor Plants

So if you guys have been reading up on our projects during quarantine, you might have seen that I’ve been doing a lot of work on my apartment. Well, I was of course satisfied with all the work… until I got bored and figured it was time for more projects. Anyone else feel me? HAH! I will forever be re-doing my living space…

But hey, I’ll be WFH for the foreseeable future so I might as well make it EXACTLY how I want! And this planter project was too perfect. Combines planting AND painting… 2 of my favorite things.

I went over to Seri’s one day when I was back in the city, and she told me I should take her planter from her patio knowing she wouldn’t be around all summer to even bother planting anything. I said…. this is PERFECT for a DIY project. This is a link to a very similar planter if you’re looking to try this at home!

I had tons of leftover paint from my wall mural so I figured I would make a design to match it. Natalie and I were chatting and she suggested I do some delicate flowers, like I sometimes use in designs for our clients. I mocked a little something up and sent to her for an opinion, and she helped me nail down the decision. And I have to say, it was the perfect choice. I used the little mockup as a guide while I prepped my design in pencil. Then I chose the color order before I started painting.

I used a really small tip, but firm, brush for this so I could get the little details. I highly recommend trying this at home and using real wall paint to make sure it stands up to any excess watering spills.

Once it was done, I chose two snake plants and an aloe plant to fill its wide shape. I chose these because they will grow UP and not cover up the painting. I can’t wait to see these babies grow so tall! I’m convinced that sooner or later I will basically be living in a jungle… and honestly, I’m okay with it!
