DIY Mardi Gras Hair Clip
Well LMP fam, it’s been a while since we’ve done a good old DIY together! When I was with Seri and Natalie in Florida earlier in February, we planned so many amazing shoots and holiday celebrations, which for me meant CRAFTING! We planned such a fun shoot for Mardi Gras with some amazing outfits, cocktails, and more.
I wanted something beyond beads to accessorize our cute looks- what’s more fun than matching with your gals for a themed party?!
Seri and I stopped by the “dollar” section in Target where we always find the most amazing little things. I saw a set of hair clips and thought- this would be cute if it had feathers and gemstones for Mardi Gras! So while we got these barettes in Target, you could get something similar at your drug store or even on Amazon. I’ve linked some similar supplies below that you can use for your own!
You’ll need:
If you want some variety in your feathers and gemstones, take a look at your local craft store to fill in! Our peacock style feathers were from Michael’s.
The great thing about this DIY is that you can really just have fun with the supplies. There doesn’t need to be a specific way in which you do this, I just saw what worked along the way. Things to keep in mind:
Make sure you test the clip in your hair, and place the feathers on the clip in the direction away from your face- the lever “clip” piece that you squeeze with your fingers will be the end of the piece and the feathers will face the opposite direction.
Start at the base so you can cover up most of the clip!
Start with your larger feathers so they end up in the back. Continue adding until you’re happy with the arrangement and then cover the goopy glue area at the bottom with your gemstones.
I made 3 different hair pieces for Seri, Natalie and I. 2 were on clips, and the last one I made very similar but on a stretchy headband! So if you don’t have time to grab clips, you can always improvise.
I think we’re ready for New Orleans next year! Happy Mardi Gras!
