Movie DAY!

As soon as we started our self quarantine, which seems like years ago by now, one thing that ran through my head was….we’re going to be watching a lot of TV.

The kids immediately suggested finding a show that we could watch together as a family every night. I was very into this idea. I had always wanted to see Glee, and it felt like a great series showcasing the arts that would be wonderful for both kids and adults - so we dove right in! Now wow. Maybe I should have done my research because there is a lot of very mature, high school content. But my friend Gina rings through my head as she recently told me that she’s reached a point with her kids (mine are ages, 10 & 7), where she lets them watch pretty much anything. She says, if they see things and ask questions, it keeps an open dialogue and sparks great conversations that can help to make some topics less taboo, ie. sex. I see this, hear this and agree. I think communication is key.

Some days, we need a break from homeschool so instead of watching a daytime movie, we watch two episodes of Glee. The downtime on the couch is nice and sometimes so needed, for the kids and me! The weather has been super chilly and we’ve had a lot of rain, so I decided to turn one gloomy afternoon into a little movie day party. I popped popcorn, served it in my favorite ceramic popcorn bowls, and set out some popcorn snack boxes (from our Movie Party in a Box). The boys loved serving themselves and customizing their snack using shakers with parmesan + rosemary as well as a cinnamon sugar. I also served some of their favorite candies and made hot chocolate. It was pretty perfect and even found them snuggling on the couch while watching our show.

Now that we’re all home streaming more than ever, how great would it be to gift a Movie Party in a Box to a friend, your kiddo’s teacher as an end of the year thank you…or to yourself to enjoy with your family! Once we finish up with Glee, you bet I’ll be popping up some more popcorn and revisiting our LMP list of the best binge-worthy picks. If we missed your favorite movie or show, let us know in the comments!
