Ginger Fizz
It's that time of the week again! I've been on a little bit of a health kick since the New Year started -- ya know, resolutions and all that. For this weeks cocktail, I decided to incorporate one of the healthiest foods out there - ginger!
Not only is ginger super healthy, but it is one of my favorite flavors. When I suggested making a cocktail with ginger, Seri mentioned this recipe for ginger simple syrup that Mandy (of Mandy's Meals & More) has made in the past, which was a huge hit. It's easy to make, lasts for a long time, and can be used for a variety of recipes.
Ginger Simple Syrup
Here's what you'll need: -3" piece of fresh ginger -1/2 cup of white sugar -1/2 cup water
Here's what to do: 1) Peel and thinly slice your piece of fresh ginger. 2) In a small saucepan, combine sliced ginger, sugar and water. Bring to a boil. 3) Once your water has come to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 5-10 minutes, until your simple syrup is thick enough. 4) Pour your simple syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a measuring cup, or other glass container, to strain out pieces of ginger.
Ginger Fizz Cocktails
Here's what you need: -ginger simple syrup -bottle of champagne -clementines
Here's what to do: 1) Add 1/4 inch of ginger simple syrup to each glass.
2) Pour desired amount of champagne into each glass. 3) Mix together champagne and ginger simple syrup with stir stick or cocktail stirrer. 4) Garnish the top of each glass with a clementine wedge.
Sip and enjoy! This cocktail is super simple, delicious and easy to make... just how we like it. For a stronger ginger flavor, you can add more ginger simple syrup, or even garnish each drink with candied ginger!
As I mentioned before, you can store your leftover ginger simple syrup and use for some other recipes later on, such as ginger lemonade, moscow mules, and mojitos. Stay tuned to my weekly cocktail series for more ideas!
Seri and I had a great time making this cocktail, and documented much of the process (and tasting) on Snapchat. For behind-the-scenes footage and recipe info, you can follow LMP on snapchat, @LMPNYC. Snap code here!
