The Best Retro Parties
When I was planning the blog for this month, I saw that tomorrow was going to be #NationalRetroDay which got me thinking of all the fabulous throwback parties we’ve planned over the years.
Whether you lived through the decades or not, it’s always fun to dress up in the fun fashions from the time and send all of your guests into a blast from the past. This makes throwback parties one of the best party themes!
One of our favorite parties to date was Seri and Adam’s 40th Prom Party. We had a lot of fun planning this bad boy. It all started with this truly 80’s color palette of: blue, teal, hot pink, white, and black. All over the place… just like the 80’s. We had tons of fun balloon installations all over the venue and added in retro props including candy that was popular at the time!
The best part??? Everyone went ALL OUT with the outfits. Costume parties are always tricky, you don’t want to be the one person dressed up because no one else took it seriously. Well that wasn’t the case with this crowd. I swear we should have had a costume contest because people came serving some looks!!
Oh and I forgot to mention the best part of all, there was an 80’s cover band called Rubix Kube. I’ve never really been much of a band person but these guys really gave it their all. From the stage props to the costumes (they had many), all the way down to the synchronized dance they did! They really set the mood for the party and got the crowd going.
Another throwback party we got the pleasure to style was this little throw back party we did for a client out at her Hamptons home. She and her friends were going to go out on birthday day excursions and when she got back she wanted the house to be transformed into an 80’s wonderland. So we did just that!
This party was all in the details. On the table we had fun cheetah print napkins held together in the cheesiest banquette hall way (and very 80’s) and cassette tape place cards. At the center of the table we had this stunning cheetah print roller-skate with a little flower arrangement in the center.
Then in the main living room, we set up this awesome fringe photo backdrop. Complete with a limited edition retro print Polaroid camera and tons of props!
I always remember this disco party to be one of my favorite takes on a throwback 70’s party. The client wanted disco balls everywhere which is great for us because we have a ton all over our office!
So if you’re ever looking for a party theme thats easy to put together and gets your guests to dress up, this one is totally it!
