Night of Lights

IF you ever find yourself over in my neck of the woods, I must tell you about the most amazing situation that happens every holiday season and lasts through the end of January! It’s called the Night of Lights and it’s located in the historic town of St. Augustine.

St. Augustine was founded in 1565 by Spanish explorers and is the oldest continuously inhabited European-established settlement in what is now the contiguous United States. There is so much history and beauty in this town, you could spend days there…there’s so much to do and learn!

My favorite time of year there, is the winter. The entire town is covered in Christmas lights. These photos that I am sharing here do no justice to the sheer beauty of this town during the holiday season. I am always so taken by it year after year.

The best way, I think, to do the night of lights is to go with your family and/or friends and start on the Trolly Train ride at Ripley’s Believe it or Not. Hop on board and enjoy a tour of the town and all of the lights that have been set up. Sing songs, cozy up (bring a blanket if it’s cold out!) and take tons of photos or NOT because they will not turn out well in the darkness so you may as well just be present and enjoy it all.

After the trolly ride, grab dinner. There are TONS of restaurants and bars all in walking distance from where you get dropped off by the trolly. My personal favorite is the kitchy, Columbia Restaurant. It’s Spanish food that I personally find to be delicious and they have the whole place decorated for the Holidays. Make a reservation and if you can’t get one, don’t worry there are so many other fabulous places to try!

St. Augustine’s Nights of Lights has been listed as one of the most beautiful holiday light displays in the U.S.! And I totally get why. Trust me on this one…you’ll so love checking it out.
