Julius' Super Fifth Birthday
There are many awesome theme options for a kid's birthday party, and one of our favorites is a super hero theme! That's why, when our client came to us to plan her son's 5th birthday, we were so excited to hear that he is very into super heroes, and got to work planning a party that he will remember forever.
They decided to have their party at their beautiful brownstone in Manhattan, which is filled with the most incredible pieces of art you could imagine. When planning the decor, we wanted to keep things fun and colorful without covering up or taking away from the awesome pieces that they already own.
We divided this party into two sections - the downstairs dining room and wet bar would be where the adult food and drinks were stationed, while the upstairs would be the true center of the party, with the kids table, dance floor and photo backdrop!
For the adult food, we worked with Murrays Cheese to order some platters of charcuterie and sandwiches, which we placed on the clients dining room table with some fresh yellow and red flowers in white dwell vases and black bud vases. We also set out some wine, beer and sparkling water on the wet bar to chill in our red and white beverage buckets.
Also in the adult area, and clustered throughout the rest of the party were a variety balloons - red, blue and gold stars, Jumbo silver fives, BOOM! comic balloons, and a TON of red, yellow and blue latex balloons.
In order for the kids to know that they were meant to head upstairs for all of the fun, we needed a sign! Maggie designed this AWESOME one, which we placed at the bottom of the stairs, which read "Super Kids This Way!", with an arrow pointing up. Just in case that sign wasn't enough, we lined the stair bannisters with these handmade lightning bolt garlands, which Michelle found on Etsy.
We rented kid size tables and chairs for all the little kiddos in attendance. We lined these tables with black tablecloths, and set each place with tableware from our Kids Birthday Bash Box, and kid-sized water bottles with custom labels that Maggie designed, which said "Hero H2O."
Clusters of balloons tied to super hero action figures also lined the table, with Spiderman in the middle anchoring the biggest cluster - a specific request from the birthday boy himself.
As for entertainment, Julius' parents wanted to throw him an epic dance party, so we turned to our friends at Melinda's Childrens Parties NYC, and they sent us the incredible DJ June. June spun all of Julius' favorite tunes and every other kid-friendly pop song you could imagine. The kids AND adults had an absolute blast dancing their hearts out, and even formed an epic conga line at one point and paraded around the house.
Keeping in mind their sons love of super heroes, Julius' mom and dad also wanted to surprise their son with a little visit from his favorite, Spiderman! We worked with NYC Party Kids to arrange a little visit from Spiderman, and also Elsa from Frozen for the girls.
The kids were FLOORED when Elsa and Spiderman walked in. They could not stop staring at them! Spiderman and Elsa kept the kids entertained by teaching them tricks, playing games and taking pictures with them in front of the photo backdrop that we set up by the dance floor.
When it was time for dessert, we brought out this beyond gorgeous cake that our client had made by Tribeca Treats, which they made to coordinate with the theme and our decor.
We also set out these delicious brownie pops by one of our faves - Making That Cake. These were a huge hit, and were gone in about 30 seconds!
As the kids were leaving, they grabbed a super cute favor - Make Your Own Superhero Capes, which Imagination Lane custom made for the occasion. We attached hangtags that Maggie also designed, which said "Thanks for celebrating with me! Love, Super Julius."
The kids had an absolute blast at this party, and so did we. Happy birthday, Julius! Thanks for including us in your special day.
