DIY Confetti Place Cards

Every time I see our rainbow confetti floating around the studio, it just seems to scream CELEBRATE. There’s nothing that’s more of a quintessential representation of a party than a big pile of confetti. So recently I thought, maybe I should make something using all this confetti!

First thing that came to mind was PLACE CARDS. At LMP, we love using place cards as a simple addition to the table that brings a personalized element for each guest. And in this time, while we’re celebrating in small groups, you only need to make a few for those special friends and family members you might be sitting down to eat and celebrate with.

Here’s what you need:

  • paper confetti- we get ours from Knot & Bow!

  • white card stock- or even poster board works

  • clear plastic template sheets- this link is from Amazon, but you can also swap this out for any clear/ semi-clear material like vellum or even recycled from packaging of something you purchased! just need to be flexible and thick enough to be sturdy, but thin enough to cut through with scissors

  • mod podge- I recommend the matte, but gloss would work fine as well!

  • foam brushes- normal paint brushes will work too, but I prefer these when using mod podge

  • white paint marker- you can get creative with the colors if you wish! I just find that the white POPS the most against the colorful confetti

Step 1: Paint your sheet of cardstock with mod podge. Try to do this quickly so it doesn’t dry too fast!

Step 2: Stick your confetti piece by piece onto the mod podge. I recommend doing this with diligence, picking out the pieces that might be folded or crumbled so every bit of the paper is covered with crisp confetti. Also be sure to distribute the colors evenly across the page so when you cut it down to name card size, you don’t have any sections that are too oversaturated with one color. Lastly, try to keep the pieces in only one layer so they lay flat and stick down. You might need to add more mod podge as you go and that’s okay.

Step 3: Paint mod podge onto the back of the plastic sheet, and flip it over to place it on top of your confetti-covered card stock. Firmly press down over the entire piece and allow to dry for 4 hours before cutting. You can do Step 4 before it’s fully dry.

Step 4: Use a ruler to mark the edges of your name cards. I recommend at least 3 inches wide and 2 inches tall to give you enough space to write the names. Once you’ve created your spaces, use the white paint marker to write each name slowly. I used cursive, but feel free to get creative and use block letters or anything else. Just be sure to give yourself space for each name, especially if it’s long.

Step 5: Once you’re certain the mod podge has dried, you can use scissors to cut each name card. I recommend using a heavy duty pair, or even a box cutter with a metal edge ruler if you’re comfortable using one.

And voila! The cutest confetti name cards to match your favorite party decor. Once you’ve mastered this method - you can use it to craft all sorts of things out of confetti. Think menus, coasters, greeting cards - the possibilities are endless…happy crafting!
