Self Care Can Go A Long Way
Now, more than ever in our lives, I think one of the most important and crucial things that we can do to save our sanity is self care. I’ll be the first to admit that it’s almost impossible for me to take the time out of my day for just me. I hate leaving my kids alone during the day when they are supposed to be doing school work because I know that the second I walk away, they will goof off and avoid doing their work at all costs. The thought of that thoroughly stresses me out but after 8 weeks of quarantine, I’ve decided, I need to loosen up.
With Mother’s Day only a few days away, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to start getting in the habit of taking some time for self care with a morning to myself. I tested this out with Gavin’s help who was my trusty photographer along the way.
First step to a relaxing morning was cleaning up my bathroom and pulling a few items from around my home to make it feel like I’m at the spa. I have a faux tree in my office that Gavin brought up to my bathroom for me and I have to say, it makes the bathroom feel very zen. I have a wicker chair in the basement that I brought up along with a side table from my office. Figured I could make this a little nook next to the bath to moisturize and groom up my nails with this nourishing mask when I was done with my bath.
To dress up this little nook I put the candle from our Mother’s Day party box there to light as well as a message board to remind my family that I need a little time alone….if they try to bother me I will point to the sign: NOT NOW PLEASE.
I recently purchased a bath caddy which is pretty life changing for those who like baths. On top I placed another soothing candle, a hot mug of coffee and a book to read. I happen to be in the middle of the book that Luke chose for his independent reading for school. He hates reading (as do I) so I suggested we do a book club together. I told him he can read the book, and I’ll read the book, and then we can discuss it together. He loved this idea and it happens to be a very funny series.
For my bath, I added bubbles to the warm water to make it very sudsy and the Goop Martini Emotional Detox Soak that Shaylan recently gifted me as a pick up me during this challenging time. Both made the bath that much more relaxing and soothing...who doesn’t love bubbles?
I have to say, this felt pretty amazing and made me feel so happy and relaxed for the remainder of my day. Self care looks different for everyone, so I highly suggest tailoring your pampering. With Mother’s Day approaching this Sunday, it’s the perfect time to surprise all the stressed out mamas working overtime during this pandemic. You can whip up a special meal, send a heartfelt homemade card, create an at home movie night or a spa experience like mine. Whatever you decide, make sure you tell all the moms in your life (yourself included if applicable) how much they’re loved & appreciated! <3
