DOUBLE DIGITS
I can’t believe I’m sitting here writing about my first born child turning TEN. Ten is one of the childhood birthdays I actually remember. Double Digits man! That’s huge when you’re a kid! It’s totally stepping into all new territory. Gavin is looking into middle schools now, he’s got his own opinions and he is so independent! Thankfully - Gavin still holds my hand and hugs me all the time. Omg. When that ends…I’m gonna DIE. I feel like college is so close. gulp.
I feel like the luckiest person in the world to be this guy’s Mother. Kids got a heart of gold. Solid. I am so proud of my young man. It hurts actually.
To celebrate this big number, Gavin wanted to throw a big bash. He is always asking me about the business and often wants to help me build proposals and budgets for my clients which I think is so cool. Around the time we started talking about his party, I happened to be planning a client appreciation party for a Toronto music company. He loved every detail that he saw….
The party had a very Rave-y theme with a glow bar, a DJ and a candy buffet. Gavin’s dream party. So…he copied it to a tee. AND…he DJ’d! Oh my gosh…he was a huge hit! With DJ Natalie by his side, together they ran dance games for the kids, handed out prizes to the most active participants and spun the most awesome tunes.
We had the party at the Kellogg’s Cafe in Union Square which is such a cool, somewhat raw space that we decorated with custom signs for Gavin and neon rainbow link balloons that we affixed to the windows overlooking Union Square Park.
Look at the cereal disco bowl! They had a cereal bar - the kids LOVED it!!! And got cereal ALL OVER THE FLOOR - which was not my problem. That’s the best thing about having a birthday party at a venue and not at home.
I went with a splatter paint palette for the cake, cupcakes and cake pops that Angela of Making that Cake made for my main man. The bright colors were so fun!
The party was a blast and Gavin had the time of his life. Not a bad way to kick off turning TEN!
Happy happy birthday to my baby boy. I hope all of your wishes come true.
