Little Miss Party

A Fishy Fiftieth

I would say that the title of this blog makes it sound like I’m about to write some crazy story about a 50th birthday party. Quite the contrary. This was the most elegant, low key, DELICIOUS 50th I’ve been to yet. Even better, this party was one week after my 40th which was a total rager, so it was nice to have a chill Saturday night celebrating one of our best friend at one of my favorite restaurants.

This birthday was to celebrate our friend Alan. Alan has worked with my husband Adam for over 15 years. They are what you could say…work wives. They spend so much time together and our families have developed a very close bond over the years going on ski trips together, spending summer weekends together and so much more.

Alan’s wife, Viktoria planned this party for Alan’s closest friends. Was a group of about 50 guests and she knew that she wanted to have the party at the New Nobu downtown because sushi is Alan’s favorite. Viktoria also asked if we could help her out with the coordination and decor for the party. I was especially excited to do so knowing Alan so well.

The space was dim lit and dark so we wanted to design the space out with unique pieces of decor that would really pop. We built a lot of white and gold into the palette knowing that the white would make an impact on the space. We also personalized the party by creating custom napkins with photos from each of the 5 decades of Alan’s life. Alan is not one to drink liquor but just LOVES Apple Juice! His favorite is Martinelli’s so we picked up a few bottles, had my kids drink all the juice and then used them as vases for our florals. We took it a step even further and Maggie designed custom labels for the bottles with Alan’s photos and text relating to Alan’s birthday to match the original label. I really loved how this bottle turned out!

In the main space where enjoyed speeches, a ton of insanely delicious sushi and great conversation, we styled a huge balloon garland over the buffet table as well as tons of photos of Alan and his family + friends from over the years.

It all came together so beautifully and Alan had the most fabulous night. We were so happy to be part of this milestone birthday and can’t wait to share many more celebrations with these special friends.
