A wintry rustic baby shower

This December, I learned that winter, is my favorite season for a baby shower. At first I thought, ooooh. Schlepping to a shower in the dead of winter is going to be challenging on a Sunday when I just want to curl up in my jammies. But spending the afternoon with great friends, one who was the guest of honor and soon to be mother, with mimosas and a beautiful setting, was pretty fabulous.

For this shower, I was both a guest and the planner. To celebrate her pregnancy, my friend's mom wanted a sophisticated, tasteful design.

We went with a neutral color palette to compliment the rustic venue, Corkbuzz as well as the season.

In the winter, fresh flowers are hard to come by. We scoured the market and ended up withs some pretty fabulous blooms such as eucalyptus, ranunculus, garden roses and dusty miller. Gold was the perfect metallic accent for this event so we mixed together gold bud vases with geometric glass vases.

My favorite detail of this shower were the balloons. We order our event balloons from One Stylish Party who stuffs jumbo, clear balloons with confetti in any palette that we give her. On the tails of these balloons we attached the eucalyptus greens which smelled amazing and looked so pretty.

For each place setting we had a customized menu that we ordered from our favorite online stationary site, Minted. Plus Crafty Maggie made a hand written name card for each guest so they can find their assigned seat.  To display the name cards we sprayed succulents gold which turned out so gorgeous.

We had some really fun details built into the shower. First, a baby hoop. The DIY for this photo hoop is on our blog and so easy to make! We thought this was such a cute way to show off baby photos of the mom and dad to be.

The dad in the mix here is a huge rock and roll fan. So we ordered a variety of rock n roll onesies from our favorite children's store Piccolini and strung them onto a rope for everyone to see and for the mom to later take home.

As a keepsake for mom, we set a station where everyone could write their advice for the baby. We had beautiful cards printed for everyone to fill out, a Polaroid camera so you could include a photo of yourself as well as stickers and markers so the guests could decorate a page in this scrapbook.

Lastly, we sent all the guests home with a sweet little gift. We asked our friend Betty of Biscotto cookies to create a onesie cookie that was the design of our friend Alex's famous onesie that she sells in her shop. For New York parents this seemed like the perfect token of appreciation for all those who came to the shower.

It was such a lovely day and most certainly memorable seeing my friend be showered with so much love.
