I think you probably know by now…I have a mad obsession with photos. Photos of my parties, food and my family. And ever since cell phones were created to snap and shoot…I’ve built a library of photos so big I don’t know what to do with them all anymore. This however has not stopped me from continuing to build a library of great images.

When Luke was born I quickly realized the second child just doesn’t get as much attention as the first. I thought maybe I won’t have as many pictures of him as I did of Gavin? Well that wasn’t the case. If anything…there might be more. Especially since he’s so adorable with his big brother…I have a whole new world to capture on film.

Since Gavin was born I made a point of getting professional photographs taken one to two times a year. As cute as my dinky shots are…nothing holds a candle to the shots taken by someone who knows how to work a camera. So a couple of weeks ago we had the incredible Raquel Bianca come over and spend an hour with us to work her magic. And that’s exactly what she did…

If you have kids you know that although taking their pic is great in theory…it’s actually very hard to do. They never want to smile, sit still or look at the camera. Well lucky for me Raquel has a way with kids.

First – she stresses the timing of the shoot. She suggests working with the kids in the morning when they are fresh, well rested and ready to play. Second…she loves to work with parents who are relaxed. If you’re chill it rubs off on the kids and they are just as laid back as you are. And that’s exactly what we were on the sunny Sunday morning that Raquel came over. So the kiddies…were at their best…

When Raquel is done with the shoot she takes her time to carefully edit the photos and put them into an online gallery where you can share, order prints and photo books. It’s easy as one-two-three creating a problem for me 200 prints later…I just couldn’t choose! And there are so many family members who were all over these making for great gifts.
What I love most about these shots is you have the traditional “look at me and say cheese” shots….but Raquel also captures special candid moments. Those are my faves…

I cannot rave enough about Raquel. I love working with her and so do my kids…anyone who can make them look this good is priceless…and what perfect timing to work with her…as the weather is finally warming up!

Mention Little Miss Party when you book Raquel for your next photo session to receive a special discount and then please do share your photos with us…we’d love to see and hear what you think about her work!

Tonight I hosted my first real dinner party in my newly decorated apartment (more coming soon…and oh just wait) AND with kid #2 lurching around.
In planning this dinner…we had just come off of doing 7 other events this month…and it’s only May 22nd. I’ll never forget when working one of the first weddings we did…someone asked me “how many events do you do a month”? I lied and told him 2-4. I thought that was a lot. That’s nothing when you’ve got 8!
Well this was a special one….
You know Ali from reading our blog…she started as Gavin’s sitter when he was one…and has grown up with us personally and professionally ever since. So when Ali said we need to do something for her graduation this year…there was no question I was all over it.
A small intimate dinner party with Ali’s family was what sounded right to me.
When I saw the weather forecast for the week I was insanely excited to see 79 degrees and sunny so we could sit out on the deck for cocktail hour!

Little did I know that 79 degrees would creep up to 2000 and feel like a sauna outside. So that didn’t last too long. While it did…I learned a very important lesson however: When you’re 16 floors above the ground on a windy deck…don’t wear a dress that could fly up. That’s right. Flashed the entire party. Everyone in Ali’s family now knows my tush very well. party planning 101?!

Some other things I learned after throwing Ali’s graduation dinner…
I wanted to work with a spring / farmer’s market inspired menu. I thought…this could be beautiful, healthy and delish. Well it was – all of it. But it wasn’t a great menu for this crowd. These folks wanted to throw back some chow and I just didn’t provide those types of dishes. When my Aunt Debi & Uncle Steve throw a BBQ or dinner party while we’re in Toronto they make sure to have plentiful food that feeds a crowd and doesn’t leave anyone hungry. They get enough to serve the Israeli army. So my menu — which I wrote onto a bread bag filled with sliced baguette (which I of course found on Pinterest) —- was the following:

Fresh pea soup with chive blossom cream
Mustard crusted lamb chops
Lemon roasted asparagus
Leek + thyme potato gratin

What wasn’t lacking…was the flavor. Everything tasted great. The miss -
Soup – was way too thick. I served individual portions in these perfect soup shooters from CB2 and Adam had to grab spoons for everyone. Ugh. How embarrassing? Next time…I need to add more chicken stock to thin it out in the puree process…noted.

Lamb – was way to hard to cook. I had to sear which gets smokey and then I had to bake for 25 minutes…which gave me raw meat so I had to throw it back in. What a foodie no no! Not to mention…there was enough…but I bet my guests could have eaten way more.

Asparagus – was fine…though I should have pressed the garlic and then made a sauce instead of throwing everything on top before roasting.

The Gratin – was pretty tasty. The recipe didn’t call for cheese and I added it at the last minute of reheating…this was the best move I made all night.

Otherwise…….the party was awesome. We sipped on a ton of pink champagne, reminisced over the years we’ve known Ali and how proud we are to see her graduating from college! To honor this…I worked with our girl Christine to make a board for Ali to keep. It was made up of pictures from her instagram of her closest friends, boyfriend and my boys. It turned out so incredibly well and Ali loved it.

For the decor – I was inspired by the many colors of Ali’s hair over the years that we’ve known her. We’ve gone from blonde to pink to purple to blue and finally green. She currently is rocking the mermaid look and is killing it.

Since green is the color of the moment for Ali’s hair…I had some fun with empty Perrier bottles that I stripped and cleaned. I taped half way down the bottle, painted gold and covered in glitter. Once dry I removed the tape. My entire deck is now full of glitter but boy was it worth it…how stunning is this DIY badboy of a vase…?

I organized myself really well for today and had a decent amount of help. Plus the boys were angels all day so we were cooking with gas for the prep of tonight’s party. It all came to a halt just around 4:30 which was go time. Kelsey left, the guests arrived, appetizers & drinks were set out and perfectly timed due to the help of my little friend Gavin who loves to party plan as much as I do.

I was nervous about entertaining my guests, feeding the lil guys their dinner and pouring drinks which was all happening at the same time. But it turned out that the boys just hung out and chilled with everyone and gave me no trouble at all allowing me to put my hostessing first. They ate loads of shrimp cocktail and went to bed as soon as they got tired. It was pretty remarkable actually.

No doubt it would have been easier to give my full attention to this meal…but I love every second of being with them.

Speaking of kids who I love…Ali has become a part of our family and we could have thought of no better way then to share this big achievement with her and her dear family. We hope to share in many more occasions with you all to come…

Every year my Aunt Debi throws together a little brunch to celebrate being a mom, her mom and all mom’s related to her. This year she put on this brunch…but this was not “thrown” together. Not even close. Aunt Debi went all out LMP style so we just had to share!
The theme was family, elegance and class. Deb made a dessert table that displayed photos of all of the mother’s invited to her brunch…from their hay day and each black and white vintage original picture was more beautiful then the next.

To toast the Mom’s at this brunch Debi set out Pink Grapefruit and sparkling white wine Margaritas with Lime which looked so beautiful over the lace runner (which is vintage Boobie – AKA Debi’s mom & my grandmother) that she used for her dessert table.

To eat…and this is where I just cannot believe the lengths Deb went to…she whipped up this menu almost in it’s entirety, on her own. Pretty incredible…Here’s what she served…
Crab & Cucumber slaw with cranberries and Asian Mayo
Pear Feta mixed greens with candied pecans and mango poppyseed dressing
Mandy’s Peach, Basil & Mozzarella Salad
Honey & lime pan fried shrimp pops

Individual spinach and cheese frittatas in ramekins

Party Sammies (Egg, Tuna and Peanut butter/Jam)

Hummus
Israeli Eggplant Salad
Smoked salmon, cream cheese and bagels

Do you think that’s enough? There’s more…for dessert!
Lemon cupcakes

Rugelach
Chocolate fudge cheesecake pops
Salted toffee cheesecake pops (Um, what?!)

And Fruit kabobs coming out of a fancy handbag vase

I know one thing…if I was at this brunch and I SO wish I was…I wouldn’t have gone home hungry! That’s for sure!!
There were so many fabulous details considered at this brunch from the flowers to the set up from which much inspiration was drawn from Debi’s Pinterest boards where she is overflowing with great images and ideas!
I’m so proud of my Aunt Debi for all of the hard work and thought that went behind this party…was very LMP style!

I wish I could have been there to celebrate with my darling family…and since I was so homesick from missing the event I booked a trip to Toronto for next week! Let the fun continue!

Today’s blog post is brought to you by my incredible nanny Kelsey. She threw a party for cinco de mayo…and tells us all about where and how she went wrong…and why you should leave the party planning to the pros like us here at Little Miss Party! Though she had some epic failures to share…overall I still think she did a great job and it sounds like a fabulous time was had by all which in the end is what is most important. Read on to see what happened..
I moved into my apartment in Jersey City back in November, but with all of the post-Sandy problems with the PATH train, I decided to wait until it got nicer to have a housewarming party. Plus, one of the perks of living outside Manhattan means I have a backyard! With the days getting warmer, I decided a Cinco de Mayo themed housewarming would be a perfect way to celebrate.

Seri thought it was a great idea and even asked if I needed any help planning. With 7 months of working for her under my belt, I felt I had learned enough about party planning to pull it off on my own. Boy was I wrong!

I had never thrown what I would call a “grown-up” party before, but working for a party planner meant I couldn’t just throw up a piñata and put out some Solo cups and call it a real party. I got to work on planning colors, décor, food and even got into Pinterest (which is truly addicting- Thanks Seri) and made some really cool DIY tissue paper pom poms!

We of course planned to serve chips and salsa along with one of my favorites- homemade guacamole! For the main event I had the “genius” idea of making Fajita Kabobs on the grill served with tortillas and all the fixings. I also made a yummy quinoa salad with black beans, tomatoes, corn, queso fresco, jalapeño cilantro, and lime.

Now enter the day of the party, which turned out to be fail after fail.

The first problem was finding my avocados were still rock hard. In a panic I searched google to try and find a miracle method to ripening avocados And let me tell you… they are all lies! We bought the avocados Friday with promises that the paper bag trick with bananas/tomatoes/apples would ripen them overnight and I thought “Well great! We have until Sunday” WRONG. I tried a trick of wrapping them in tin foil and sticking them in the oven at 100 degrees for a while. Still nothing. So okay, no guacamole.

I was rushing around like a madwoman trying to get everything ready for the 1 pm party. I ran to the grocery store to get ice, flowers, and a tiny $4 thing of guacamole. I even asked my friends Deanna and Matt who were visiting from out of town to help with the kabobs. Yes, I was desperate to the point of asking my GUESTS to touch raw meat and help prep. They did an amazing job, though!

Things weren’t going smoothly, but at least they were going, so I decided to get the table set up outside. Everything looked picture perfect outside and things were finally starting to look up, so I told my friends who just finished up the kabobs to go take a look. As I was inside cutting limes (30 minute countdown to the party and I wasn’t even showered and ready), Matt walked in with a broken vase. Oh no, what now! The table cover blew up knocking all the vases over, spilling water everywhere and breaking one vase. We rushed to clean up all the water and stapled down the table cover. Phew! At this point I had to hop in the shower and get ready, which I did in a record setting 10 minutes.

It was a 5 minute countdown and guests started arriving as I was in the middle of prepping margaritas and trying to clean up my disaster of a kitchen. Everyone filtered outside and I was still running around like a madwoman. I couldn’t help but think that the girls at LMP would never be rushing around like this- they make it look so EASY!

Once the majority of the people were there we decided to put the kabobs on the grill. Now this was one we were sure to get right… right? We did everything you’re supposed to do; we tested it out beforehand, we went to the sketchy U-haul place to get our propane tank refilled, and my roommate spent lots of time scrubbing everything clean. I figured all the prep disasters had to be behind me and I brought out the kabobs. As soon as I put them down on the grill I knew something was wrong. Where was that nice sizzle sound you are supposed to hear? The grill wouldn’t get hot enough. So NOW what?

I was almost at a state of panic- how in the world were we going to feed our guests? And what would I do with 3 trays full of kabobs!? Matt suggested using the broiler in the oven, which I thought was sure to burn the apartment down the way things had been going, but to my (and I think everyone’s) surprise it worked really well!

The fajitas were tasty, but it was clear that the meat we picked for the beef kabobs was too tough. Everyone pretended they were delicious as they tried to chew the through the meat. How embarrassing! Well at least the chicken ones came out perfect.

Then as our starving guests began to dig into the quinoa salad and rice, they found their forks were literally falling apart. The handles were snapping in half and pieces of the fork were crumbling off left and right. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at this point. I had found the bag of forks unopened, and never thought there would be an expiration date on forks! Well apparently there is, they just don’t put it on the bag.

Everyone had a great time with LOTS of laughs (mostly at my expense), but for now I think I’ll stick to working with children and leave the party planning to the professionals. I can guarantee you they won’t serve crumbling forks with a side of tough meat topped with rock hard avocados.

I milked mother’s day for all it was worth this weekend both professionally and personally. Let’s see…where do I even begin?
Let’s start with lunch at Barney’s. One of our sweet clients who loves to give us only a few days notice whenever she needs us to come in and “cute-sy” up her table asked if we could help out with her Mom’s 65th birthday party. Pretty hard to say no. The lunch was for 6 gals at Fred’s in Barney’s New York. We kept it simple, classy and pretty. Just like the guest of honor. With a color palette of coral, grey and white we had some fun spray painting some glass vases to funk up the floral arrangements and found some adorable chevron printed pails at Target which made our spring tulips pop on the table. For a simple favor at each place setting we wrapped a mug filled with tea accessories and included a recipe for Challah since the event took place on a Friday – Shabbat Shalom!

Moving on…later that night we styled an event that was sponsored by Urban Sitter and hosted by our friend Ilana of Mommy Shorts. This was one of my favorite events to date…partially because Michelle and I got to stay and participate. Was so fun!! A small party of 10 moms got together to have cheese and wine at Murray’s Cheese Bar on Bleecker, gab and celebrate a much deserved night out away from the kiddies. From what I understand the Friday night before Mother’s day is now called “Mom’s Night Out”. Who knew? But it Sounds good to me!

And what better way to get out with your friends then hiring a sitter so you can let loose and have a good time?! Urban Sitter’s service is so fab. The website is easy to use, there are pictures of all of the sitters, you can interview them if you wish and the best part is…no cash at the end of the night. They can just charge your credit card and take care of all of the hours your sitter worked for you! I love when I don’t have to think.
So for this event we came in and did up some pretty fun decor on the table that we had reserved at Murray’s – which was awesome by the way! Right in the front window, loved how the place was decorated and the cheese and wine was spectacular! An incredible spot to go with your girlfriends or date night!

We have been very into the DIY projects lately…they are so fun and make our events personal and more special knowing that our decor has been hand crafted!
So for Mom’s night out we sprayed MOM letters from the craft store in white paint and added glitter. Looked beautiful standing on the table mixed in with all of the flowers we set out. For the place cards we painted mini terra cotta pots and added blue glitter to the rims. We filled with foam, covered with crinkle paper and stuck a stripe straw in each with a flag including everyone’s name at their seat. Right before everyone arrived we added a flower to the top. Gorgeous!
Finally we took plain wood berry baskets and painted them white and neon pink. We made the “perfect morning” baskets (to follow a wild night!) out of each by adding a mug and small bag of coffee grinds along with a print out of ideas for how our guests could spend their next Mom’s night out.

Our colors were very symbolic of all of us there who contributed to the night – green and blue for Urban Sitter, black and white for Mommy Shorts and Pink for LMP! The table was a huge hit. It looked so fabulous there were mobs of people stopping to take pictures outside and in! What a great success.

As for Mother’s day itself – I hosted my husband’s family at our house out east. It was casual and so fun hanging with the family enjoying some good eats. The decor was pretty easy as I have cherry blossom trees in full bloom on my front yard and took full advantage of them since they have such a short life…

I filled Ikea flower pots with cherry blossoms and made a beautiful arrangement on my dining table.

For brunch I whipped up a very spring menu including Pasta Carbornara, A salad dressed with a mustard vinaigrette, white and green roasted asparagus topped with fresh parmesan cheese and foccacia from the Union Square Farmer’s Market. I set all the food out as a buffet so everyone could help themselves at their leisure.

Once again I had some fun with spray paint…and hit up some baby artichokes with a gold shine for the place settings at my table…just marvelous…

And to round off the afternoon Gavin and I made some pink lemonade cupcakes topped with vanilla icing and edible gold stars. Holy yum were these light, fluffy and GOOD! They were gone with in seconds…I kid you not.

We all a great time spending the day together ..nothing is more imporant then my family. And from mine to yours…hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day Weekend!!

Boy has it been a busy spring here at LMP!! We have been knee deep in engagement parties, bridal showers, and of course birthday celebrations…like this fabulous 10th birthday party we had the honor of planning a few weeks ago. Our client came to us with the idea to throw her ten-year old son a poker themed party at the Vinegar Factory uptown. How fun!! This party was definitely up our alley. We just love working at the private room upstairs at Eli’s Vinegar Factory – such a fabulous space for week-day parties…and they are so wonderful to work with as well. This was gonna be a good one!

What poker-themed party would be complete without some real poker games? We found this amazing company Poker at your Place, who specializes in bringing the fun right into your home or event space. They absolutely love doing kids events, and were super excited to be involved. We had them come in and set up two poker tables complete with green felt, poker chips and wonderful dealers who were great with the kids. And instead of money, everyone received iTunes gift cards. In addition to playing poker, we also had our friend David Schwartz come in and teach the kids some card tricks. You may remember him from the 70th birthday “Loft Chic” party we planned back in April. Well, the kids loved him and the card tricks were a great addition to the action at the poker tables. Speaking of the poker tables, we of course we had to add some LMP flair to these them… green casino visors and cool shades for the kids to throw on when they were trying their best to hide their bluff! Both were a huge hit.

\

In between all the fun, Eli’s provided some kid-friendly bites for the boys. Who doesn’t like cheese pizza and pigs in a blanket? We love em! To protect the cards and chips from greasy fingers, we set up a separate table for everyone to eat at. We started with black linens and added red & black poker plates and napkins which anchored each place setting. We then added personalized water bottles set out on casino coasters. And wicker baskets with snacks were set out for munching.

As a fun take-home, we had personalized playing cards made, which we set out in a mesh pouch tied with a black ribbon. The birthday boy loves Pellegrino, or “spicy water” as he calls it so we personalized some of these too — how cute did they turn out ??

In the center of the table, jumbo dice lollipops were displayed in glass cubes filled with black rock candy.

We always try and come up with new and creative ways to create fabulous dessert tables. It’s all about the little details, after all! By framing playing cards and poker chips, we turned otherwise ordinary picture frames into fabulous platters for our sweet treats. Pretty cool right?

We had some fun playing card and “suit” sugar cookies, mini vanilla cupcakes served in Las Vegas decorative wrappers with playing card toppers and a fabulous cake adorned with “10″ – which we propped up on a vase filled with poker chips…and also added sparklers to when it was time to sing. All gorgeous and delicious treats were courtesy of Kreated by Kristan.

In addition to the sweet treats, we filled chinese food containers filled with salty “Poker Snacks” for the kids to snack on throughout the night or even take home. Some gorgeous green flowers, a personalized backdrop and chocolate poker chips were the perfect touches to complete the dessert table…and we absolutely loved the outcome.

We love a Polaroid camera for it’s ability to provide instant gratification…so we set out a station where kids could grab silly mustaches or glasses and snap a quick pic! Before the kids arrived, Seri and I even got in on the fun.

Check out these fabulous ‘poker suit’ shaped balloons we found!! They were the perfect addition to the “TEN” balloons we strung up as guests entered the space. It took awhile to get them into place, but once we did they looked really cool.

We had such a fun time with this one! Makes us want to grab our hubbies take a quick trip down to AC and try our luck at the tables…

One of my favorite parts of the party planning biz is being able to use our talents to celebrate friends and family that are near and dear to us. That’s exactly what I got to do a couple of weeks prior for my friend Swanna. About 5 years ago I met Swanna through a good friend of mine from Toronto and I’m so glad she made the introduction. Over the years we’ve spent a lot of time together and have grown very close. Swanna went through the typical NYC dating routine…and I met many of her suiters. But it wasn’t until Christian came along that I knew she had truly found her match. Christian gets Swanna’s quirky ways and loves her unconditionally. Always a beautiful thing to watch. When Swanna told me Christian proposed to her I was nothing but thrilled for the two of them…and immediately jumped all over the opportunity to partner with her best friends and throw her the bridal shower of her dreams.

Swanna is from New Orleans and will be marrying Christian there at the end of this month. Since they have spent so much of their relationship visiting New Orleans I thought it would only be appropriate to throw a Mardi Gras themed shower. We made it co-ed so Christian and his family could join in the fun which was so fab. The only catch was…I wanted to make it really chic which was a bit tricky since most of the fun in Mardi Gras is all about being super cheesy…so here’s how I did it.

Let’s start with the bar…Bourbon. What else? I had my friends over at Four Roses set me up with a variety of Bourbon for a tasting. I set out Mexican Cola to mix though most of the guests took it straight up…some with ice. Of course Ali designed up some adorable labels for our bottles of water and we set out bottles of pellegrino along side.

Since the party was a brunch and called for 11am I set up a coffee station where I dressed up a regular urn with some artwork to bring some life to something that would otherwise look pretty dull. To round it all out we served plenty of beer, prosecco and white wine.

Moving on to the food…my favorite part of this party…
We brought in a chef from Cobblestone Catering and he helped us serve a New Orleans inspired menu consisting of: Blackened trout po-boys, Oyster po-boys, Grilled cajun shrimp, Mini chicken & waffles, Fried green tomato topped with pickled okra and gumbo tumblers. Out of this world!!

For the sweets…we set up the most gorgeous table full of color, character masks and beads. Swanna’s friend and one of my co-hosts for the party – Stefanie Markman - also happens to be a pretty incredible pastry chef. And not one by design…she just does it for the love of baking! Well she killed it with the desserts…mask shaped sugar cookies coated with gold edible glitter, chocolate ganache bites in metallic gold liners, mini King Cakes and a King Cake inspired cake! Everything was so delish and I reaped the benefits of having this shower at my apartment by getting to eat the leftovers for days to follow!

As for decor – it was one of my favorites so far. We worked with a beautiful color palette of emerald green, deep grape purple, canary yellow and bright white. The colors pulled together so beautifully through the flowers and vases that we used to decorate my apartment with. I loved filling the glass jars of beads and adding in some gold dipped feathers. I also had some fun with gold spray paint and gold glitter for the S & C that I put on my wall over the dessert table and then gave to Swanna and Christian to keep…which they are going to reuse at their wedding!

Lastly, we set up a station where our guests could snap a photo and leave a message for the King and Queen to be. I kept the scrapbook and added some of the absolutely gorgeous photos that Raquel took of the event. It was a keepsake Swanna & Christian gushed over when I gave it to them and will cherish forever.

Not only did Swanna, Christian, their family and friends have a wonderful time at the event…but Amy Atlas ran a feature for us! Check it out here. We’re always so excited and proud to be recognized on Amy’s blog!

Congrats on your upcoming nuptials Swanna & Christian…cannot wait to continue the celebrations later this month with you!

We love a good birthday party. I mean why wouldn’t we? Planning good food, drinks and FUN. That’s exactly what we had with the celebration that we designed for a dear (now repeat!!) client of ours. She wanted to have fun with color…and so we immediately jumped all over the rainbow trend. Ikea, Target…Pinterest…Rainbows are everywhere! We just needed to make sure we did it in a way that was classy and cool.
Since we love chevron – actually cannot get enough of it as you saw from the preppy party we did earlier in the day (yes we did two events in one day this past weekend…whew!) – we used this pattern as our base for all of our signage. We had created a large sign as a backdrop to our “dressed up snacks” table where we set out white chocolate covered popcorn with pink sprinkles, chili spiced pita chips and natural cheddar cheese puffs for the guests to snack on while tapping their feet to the beats by DJ Kim Jefferson. We also made a “Celebrate” bunting to string above the bar as well as cupcake toppers for the dessert table.

We had one of the best flower runs for this party. Color color and more color. All types of flowers, white high glossy vases…stunning.

For the bar we kept it simple but totally fun. On tap was beer and wine along with a variety of colorful Izze fruit soda pops, personalized water bottles and a rainbow punch (with a bottle of vodka added in…) that we whipped up for the guests to enjoy.

Ironically the day we were putting together the proposal for this party we received a phone call from Karen the Cocktail Party Chef. She was looking to solicit herself to us as an on sight chef and when I tell you I believe in fate…this is just one more reason as to why. Karen answered our calling as if we had placed a help wanted ad. She specifically comes in to parties to work the kitchen, cook and serve delicious and gorgeous food and the best part is…she works with all types of budgets. We truly could not have been luckier to find Karen on this day. So we brought her in to work the party with us and came up with an awesome menu for a slightly picky crowd…where they wanted NO GREENS at all.

Karen put together the most creative platters we’ve seen to date. When we told her about our rainbow theme we had no idea what to expect from her..here’s how she got the platters prepped for serving…all DIY and gorgeous!

For dessert we had the most enjoyment. Working with AnnMarie Mattila Villani again on the cake and cupcakes…we were like little school girls putting together our table for this party. Could the colors be more gorgeous? Could this cake be more stunning? Want to know what happened when you cut inside? It was layers in the color of a rainbow! Sorry we don’t have a pic…the inspiration is all over Pinterest if you’d like to see!

And what would be a rainbow dessert table without tons of colorful candy?

I think it’s pretty clear we had a damn good time working on this event…even though we had a special first birthday party to put on earlier in the day, we couldn’t resist.
Cheers to happy celebrations! And doing many many more…

A Child’s first year is one to celebrate…but let’s be honest…will this child remember the party? No. So who should you be celebrating? The parents! That’s what I did when my lil man Gavin turned one and how we helped William’s parents commemorate surviving his first year!
Being a mom is by far and away the best thing on earth…and a great reason to Part-ay!
So for William’s first we got to do what we do best…a dessert table, decor and the bar. And this party…was all about the preppy details.
We used a preppy palette of navy, apple green, gold and white and chevron was the print we decided to work with. Ali did her thing with the graphics and designed a bar sign for William that was so fab…his parents asked us if they could keep it so they could save it and put it up in his college dorm room!
We had all kinds of special details at the bar including mini champagne bottles with labels personalized for William’s first birthday…look closely….

And of course Ali designed water labels for the event which turned out looking adorable with green and white polka dot straws from our favorite online store for plates & napkins and other fun party items…

For the dessert station we had even more fun putting together a spread of sweet eats for the guests to snack on. The party was from 3-6pm which was a perfect time to be serving sugary bites. A little afternoon pick me up to go along with cocktails…really can’t think of anything better! So we started with key lime bites from Agata & Valentina. They made these special for LMP as they normally only make regular sized key lime pies.

Also on the menu was a green fruit platter (grapes, apples, kiwi…), two bite brownies with blueberry skewers and vanilla cake pops + carrot cake cupcake cones from Kreated by K. Now I’ll tell you a little secret…after picking up the desserts from Kristan I absolutely could not contain myself and had to eat one of the cupcake cones. I just had to…and it was pretty much one of the best desserts I’ve eaten to date. Carrot cake + vanilla frosting and some edible gold flakes…YUM!

William’s party took place in the party room of our client’s apartment building up in Hell’s Kitchen. The space was totally retro with furniture that looked like it was right out of the 70′s. Happened to go just perfectly with all of our decor! We used gold sprayed bottles and mason jars to fill with fresh flowers from our friends over at G. Page and we also found some great fabrics to use as runners and decorate a large vase with.

William’s parents also gave us some adorable pictures from his first year to use. So we turned them sepia color so they all coordinated and framed a few to put around the room…and made bunting out of the rest.

William’s mom told us she loves elephants. So we built a few in subtly with some elephant tea pots which we used as vases and which you may remember from the adorable shower Michelle threw for her girlfriends last year…as well as gold sprayed elephants that we placed around the desserts.

The best part of this party room was that it was on the roof and had a sun terrace. Couldn’t have been a more beautiful day…spring arrived just in time for William’s party!

As for our “LMP Extras” for this party we worked with Eleni’s and set out some Color me! cookies shaped as T-Rex for the kids to draw all over + eat. Each cookie was individually wrapped and had an edible marker included. We used these for Valentine’s day and they were a hit all over again for William’s party.

William’s friends and family ate, drank and enjoyed the afternoon…we loved working with this bunch and hope to get to do so again one day soon…
Happy Birthday lil guy! Many many more to you from all of us here at LMP.

*All pictures above shot by our new friend Christine Buckley. Welcome to the team Christine…we loved working with you!

It’s no secret that we love a good party…especially one that celebrates 70 years of fabulous! A few weeks ago we designed and planned a 70th birthday soiree for a fabulous client named Asher. It all started in a raw loft in the East 40s….
In NYC, a “raw” loft space or party space is one that is completely empty and able to be transformed by bringing in everything – All furniture, tables, chairs, dishes, plates, etc. It is literally a blank canvas. When we walked into this raw space on East 45th Street, we were shocked to see there were no walls, outlets, or even lights of any kind! Wow, was this raw !! Over the next few weeks we helped crews determine where to put in all electrical outlets, how to string up the fantastic bulb lights we bought and even brought in a professional lighting company to add strategic spot lights around the space… Once the walls were up and painted white, the concrete floor was sealed and the bulb lights were strung, it was time to get to work finalizing our design for this fabulous event. Here is a before and after shot!

Asher wanted a casual party, but still one that people would be talking about for weeks to come. He is known for his past milestone birthday parties, which he throws every 5 years, the previous one being held at the iconic Katz’s deli and even featured Cirque De Soleil performers…wow, pretty impressive! Our immediate thought when discussing casual food options was the ever popular trend of food trucks. In almost every big city across the country, The Food Truck revolution has taken the food industry by storm, and even made its way to reality TV. In NYC, the best food trucks have a cult following and are now being seen everywhere from weddings to huge corporate events. We sought out the best of the best, and brought them in to serve our “dinner course” to guests. The variety and selections were amazing. As guests arrived, they were greeted with sparkling wine & water along with Thai Chicken dumplings and Vegetarian Edamame dumplings from Rickshaw Dumpling.

Once guests had a glass of bubbly in hand and had a chance to mingle, we “opened” the food stations for dinner service. Guests went from station to station, sampling the many different offerings. We had Shrimp and Lobster rolls from Luke’s Lobster; Alabama BBQ chicken tacos, brisket sliders and quite possibly the most amazing green chile mac n cheese I have ever tasted in my life from Mexicue; a braised short rib sandwich, vegetarian local grilled portabella mushroom sandwich and side of homemade coleslaw from Home by the Range; chicken & shrimp skewers and Greek salad from Soulvaki GR; and a Farm stand with two farm-to-table salads plus a grilled veggie kebob station from our friends at Cobblestone Catering. These food vendors were all amazing; every single thing I tasted was absolutely delicious. And what a fun way for guests to eat dinner! A truly unique experience. NYers are definitely addicted to lobster rolls because the long line at the Luke’s Lobster station was consistent the entire evening! Those girls certainly worked their tails off.
In addition to the food, we also asked each food vendor to “set up” their food station with items consistent with the culture and feeling of their cuisine. It was amazing to see the end result — each so unique and creative. Each station was not only visually appealing but helped guests get a sense of what type or style of food they were going to be eating. We also added a chalkboard to each station so guests could see the menu before ordering. Because the space was so raw and white, we were able to bring in our favorite airbrush artist Vince Harris, of the Art of Air to work his magic. We wanted him to airbrush each food vendors logo on the walls behind them, but spice it up a little…the result was better than we could’ve imagined! Check out these food stations, they really turned out fabulous. The airbrushing was the perfect way to tie it all together.

In keeping with the loft chic vibe we decided to forgo the typical round banquet table with white linen and instead rented these fantastic acrylic tables along with industrial metal chairs. We loved how they literally just disappeared into the space. Set out on top of each table was a red lacquer tray topped with a sleek white vase filled with flowers and some votives. Some tables also had a modern candelabra, which brought some warm lighting to the room. Simple and elegant, exactly what we were going for.

We made use of every inch of the space, so in the nook by the windows we set out a lounge area complete with contemporary white couches, ottomans and even a neon “LOUNGE” sign hanging overhead. The fully stocked bar was set up across the room and also had a neon sign hung above. Gorgeous!

Asher is known for showcasing some very unique entertainment at his parties, and this party was no different! The fun started as soon as guests arrived; greeting them in the freight elevator as they entered from the street was fabulous music by the a cappella group known as Vocal Heights. An awesome way to welcome guests! Right before dinner was served, Asher introduced the next entertainer by the name of Caleb Teicher - a brilliantly talented tap dancer. The crowd absolutely loved his performances…check out these action shots!

To entertain guests throughout the evening, David Schwartz walked around dazzling people with his unbelievable magic tricks. I actually saw him cut a whole lemon in half and pull out a $20 bill that Asher had written his name on 2 minutes previously! It was insane. Guests were definitely wondering “how did he do that?” all night long. Last, but certainly not least, Lonnie Youngblood…aka the Prince of Harlem…and his band rocked the dance floor with their soulful music all night. There was certainly no shortage of great entertainment at this party!
We stationed dessert with some of NYC most delicious sweets. Assorted mini cheesecakes from Eileen’s were an instant hit. There are no calories if it’s mini, right?? We also had brownie bites and some fruit, but nothing could compete with the decadence of the Levain Bakery cookies. There are no words except ‘mouth-watering.’ These cookies are hands down the best I have ever had. Ever. I am not sure how they do it, but they are insanely good. And they should be for $4/pop!! Do yourself a favor and go there an try for yourself…you will not be disappointed, I can promise you that.

It was such a pleasure to work with Asher and Enid on this special event. Happy 70th Asher…we will see you for your 75th!!
