Golden Dark n’ Stormy with Orange

Maggie and I are both big fans of cocktails with ginger beer in them, and while Moscow mules are absolutely delicious, we wanted to try something new! I am a big fan of Dark n’ Stormy’s when the weather is, well.. stormier, but I wanted to try to make a version that was a little bit better suited for the warmer weather.

Instead of the traditional dark rum, we used Bacardi Gold because that is what we had on hand, and it turned out absolutely delicious. Introducing… the Golden Dark n’ Stormy with Orange!

Here’s what you need:
-gold rum (we used Bacardi Gold)
-ginger beer
-orange juice
-fresh orange peel
-lime juice
-fresh lime

Here’s what to do:
1) Fill each cocktail glass about halfway with ice.  Over ice, fill glass about 3/4 of the way with ginger beer.
2) Add a 1/4 oz. lime juice and 1/2 oz. orange juice to each glass.  Stir gently to combine ingredients

3) Top each glass off with rum, about 1 oz. in each.

4) Garnish with fresh lime slice and orange peel.

How cool is that orange peel garnish?! I won’t tell you how many tries that took me.

This is the perfect summery drink to enjoy on a hot summer night, ideally for a night out dancing on a rooftop, or for sipping by the pool.

Until next week… Cheers!

How fun is taco Tuesday?!

I’m sure everyone has a go to meal when you have a crowd to feed. Mine is Tacos. So easy right? And during the summer, the fruits and veggies are so fresh. It’s so colorful and delicious!

Truth me told, I use the store bought box. I pick up a pound or two of fresh ground meat to brown up and set bowls of fresh toppings:

sour cream

pico de gallo

Oh and of course….cocktails.

Abby served Spicy Pineapple Grapefruit Palomas and they were out of this world.

We had leftover pineapple juice from Abby’s cocktail so we turned that into a pitcher of fruity mocktails for the boys. It was the juice combined with all the citrus we could find in the fridge. Yum! They loved being part of the action.

I had leftover herbs so I put them into a small jar of water and picked flowers from the garden to add a little fun to the table.

Now load up corn or flour tacos and ENJOY! Taco Tuesday Rules.

The Home Edit for LMP

Many moons ago, I worked in fashion. Back in my fashion days, I met some really awesome people. One girl, Rachel, ended up being a best friend, fast. As Rachel and I got to know each other, I met her friends. One of her friends was named Clea. She was always a chic, cool girl who I enjoyed getting to know.

The years went on and we all got busy with life, kids, careers, etc. Clea moved to Nashville and I hadn’t seen her in years.  I would always ask Rachel about her until one day, I no longer had to ask how she was doing. I could see for myself….

Clea started a business called The Home Edit. I noticed her new venture on Instagram and was immediately drawn in as I too am totally OCD and obsessed with organizing.

The Home Edit is a service where Clea and her partner Joanna, and now team of amazing organizers come into your home and edit your closets for you. They analyze your junk, work with you to purge, shop for containers to sort is all in to and then leave you with a closet full of organized chaos.

When I found out that Clea + Joanna travel all over the country to organize people’s closets I said….come on over girls!

Their team spent one day in our office and when they were done we were in awe of what they had done. They organized our party supplies by type making it so easy to find inventory when we need it and of course labeled each container with their signature calligraphy.

I’m so in love with our closets I never want to touch them again in fear that I may move something out of place.

Thank you Clea, Joanna, Nick & Sumner for spending the day making the LMP office perfectly organized! You guys are amazing.

Chef Luke Makes Candy Sushi

Chef Luke is BACK! He took a short break from his cooking show because he’s been extremely booked; camp, dates with mom, swim lessons, and all the attention throughout “The Summer of Luke” have been very exhausting. Luckily, his partner in crime, Chef Gavin, returned home from sleep away camp last week, and they insisted on cooking together.

They’ve done it again with this super fun recipe for Candy Sushi, which we adapted from Kraft. Watch the full video to see how it’s done!

Spicy Pineapple Grapefruit Paloma

Have I ever mentioned how much I love a good tequila drink? To me, there is nothing that says summer like a Margarita or Paloma.  Variations of these that use fresh, seasonal ingredients are even better!

When I was at the farmer’s market the other day, I noticed a ton of beautiful pineapples, and I had to buy one to use in a cocktail.  Which is how we got to… the Spicy Pineapple Grapefruit Paloma!

Here’s what you need:
-silver tequila
-pineapple juice
-fresh grapefruit
-fresh limes
-lime juice
-simple syrup
-chili salt

Here’s what to do:
1) Pour some chili salt onto a flat plate.  Take a lime wedge and wet the rim of your cocktail glasses, and place the wetted rim on the plate of chili salt to line the rim.

2) Once your rim is lined, set glass aside.  In a cocktail shaker, combine ice, 2 oz. tequila, a splash of lime juice, a splash of simple syrup, 1/2 cup of grapefruit juice and 1.5 cups of pineapple juice.  Shake ingredients until well combined.

3) Pour mixture into each rimmed cocktail glass.

4) Garnish each glass  with a lime slice and grapefruit slice.

Sip, and enjoy! But be careful… that chili salt is spicy!

We served this bad boy for a Taco Tuesday dinner, which will be up on the blog soon, and it was the perfect festive complement to a delicious summer dinner.

Until next time… Cheers!
